Pretty Poison by Noel Black

11/12/2006 8:07:00 PM in Film by Matt

Noel Black's Pretty Poison stars the somewhat underrated (b/c of typecasting) Anthony Perkins and the wonderful Tuesday Weld in the first film I've seen her in. The film is a little like Bonnie and Clyde (but more like the indie version of that film) but with political overtones and an unexpected twist. The "poison" refers to multiple things and although Perkin's character is clearly mentally disturbed (explained by childhood trauma), you grow to understand him more and Weld's character less as the film goes along. It's a very surprising film with an inventive, quirky script. After seeing this cool film you'll understand Matthew Sweet's obsession with Weld a little more (his album Girlfriend is great!).
