This release from 2004 finds Barbara Casini (born in Florence in 1954, studying piano and self-taught on guitar - does her last name really translate as Cottage?) channeling Elis Regina in a uptempo selection of Regina's songs. The the title means "Hurricane Elis", a reference to Regina's nickname of "furacão" ("the hurricane"), and also "pimentinha" ("little pepper") - referring to her performance ability and also her off stage temperament. These are some of my favorites from Regina and about the only complaint I have about this album is that Casini's guitar playing was absent- but this is only a minor issue really b/c the production isn't overdone and the guitar (electric this time) is deftly handled by Sandro Gibellini, "nicknamed The Arpeggiator in Italy for his loose-wristed flying left hand, which tears chords apart for their melodic possibilities." Great uptempo songs, swinging vocals, deft guitar work and a minimal production make this an excellent find!
