Fritz the Cat by Ralph Bakshi

Ralph Bakshi's Fritz the Cat is a film that could never be made today and that makes it interesting. It has a lot of social commentary - the squeamish PC crowd may view it as racist but it's simply racial and it's based on Bakshi's personal experiences (you can tell). It's an autobiographical personal story about his journey through young adulthood and not much has changed. A lot of us slackers (not the greatest term b/c it's been put upon Generation X) can relate to Fritz's adventure filled angst about an unsure future where everything can seem pointless except for the simple pleasures of life. Sure, it has its juvenile parts but it also comments on that throughout the film itself and maybe that's the point anyway.

Although this was a great animated film packed with interesting visuals and valid social/philosophical commentary, I still like Heavy Traffic more - but that's maybe b/c it has a love story in it whereas Fritz is more about a personal individualized journey through young adulthood.
