Anos Dourados Para Tom Jobim by Barbara Casini Quartet (2003)

Anos Dourados Para Tom Jobim (on the Philology label) is from 2003 and features the Barbara Casini Quartet performing a cool selection of Antonio Carlos Jobim classics. The Quartet consists of Barbara Casini (vocals), Sandro Gibellini (guitar), Raffaello Pareti (bass) and Francesco Petreni (drums) and they are in top form on this album. Casini is obviously influenced by Elis Regina but if you're going to pick a  Brazilian vocal influence, you can't go wrong with Elis - provided that you have the pipes to pull it off and this album proves that Casini definitely does. I was happily surprised to hear a version of Jobim's Passarim, which I feel is underrated (probably b/c it was one of Jobim's later compositions).  A great listen!
