Diversion Tactics of an Information Systems Analyst

Alphaville by Jean-Luc Godard

Godard's science fiction vision of a post-apocalyptic world - a metaphor for capitalism. Only rationality and logic are allowed - no emotions. Lemy Caution is from the Outlands, a world outside the dehumanizing coldness of the city. He's a spy and he meets Natasha (looking not completely unlike the character in Bullwinkle) and they go on an adventure (inner as well as outer) to ultimately escape what really befalls all of us. This film can also be seen as a metaphor for the left brain and the true revelation of it being simply a filter for the more wholistic right brain. We're all encumbered by an all too dominant left brain and escaping this into the oneness of the right brain is a spiritual journey talked about since ancient times, albeit in different metaphoric terms. Remember, in The Matrix Neo is saved from the lie of rationality and logic (symbolized by civilization) by a kiss (the emotional) in the end. Godard's output of creative films in the 1960's was incredible and Alphaville is one of the highlights.
